Minutes of the 110TH DETWILER REUNION – August 19, 2006

Seventy (70) descendants of Henry and Catherine (Latshaw) Detwiler gathered Saturday, August 19, 2006 to celebrate their 110th reunion. The theme of this year’s reunion was “Treasured Toys through the Generations” and there was a very nice display of treasured toys that members brought with them to Camp Innabah. There were also many photographs to share and family history as well. Prior to the covered-dish meal Kevin Roussey of Phoenixville, grandson of Sandy Detwiler Lusch gave the invocation and then all sang the Doxology accompanied by Chris Fetters.

After the meal and fellowship time, a group photo was taken with a background of the quilt made by Martha Weed for the 100th reunion in 1996. Sandy then excused the children for games and activities which were coordinated by Mandy & Jim Collier during the business meeting. Fun and prizes made many memories for the younger members of the Detwiler family. A Kids Korner with crafts and activities was also available to the young family members throughout the afternoon.

The business meeting was called to order by President, Sandy Detwiler Lusch presiding. Printed copies of the minutes of the 2005 Reunion business meeting were available for all to read and take home. There were no additions or corrections to the minutes. Cecile Fetters, Secretary, read a note from Evelyn Jarrett sent to all those attending and Cecile asked all present to check the address list for additions or corrections. She then passed around a sign-up list for people to bring supplies to next year’s reunion. Scott Sifford gave the Treasurer’s report. Scott noted that the amount in the treasury had been declining over the past 4 years but picked up last year and he asked those present to please be generous when he passes the basket for donations.

Historian, Dick Lusch had received word of 5 births, 3 deaths, and 2 weddings over the past year and asked for any other new information on changes in the family. A total of 6 births, 3 deaths and 3 weddings were recorded at the meeting. Dick and Sandy have paid for one year of web hosting for the new Detwiler website. Dick asked if there was anything that those present would like to see added to the website. The family genealogy was suggested but, after some discussion, it was decided that this information should not be available to the general public on the web. This type of information might make it easier for someone to fall victim to identity theft. Dick noted that all the information on the genealogy is available at the Phoenixville Historical Society on CD Rom. Any family member wishing information on his/her “roots” may contact Dick Lusch and he can send them the information on their family line either via CD Rom or as a pdf file via email. Another suggestion for enhancing the website was to add pictures of the Reunions from the past (the “old photos”). Dick will work on that.

Dave Fetters presented gifts to the following attendees: the oldest man present, 92-year old Harry Styer, and; the oldest lady present, Thelma Styer Fisher, 88- years old, are descendants of Elizabeth Detwiler; the youngest family member recognized was Eliana Fetters, 10 months old, a descendant of John Detwiler, while Donna and Charles Detwiler, a descendant of David Detwiler, traveled the farthest. Nicole and Richard T. Lusch, a descendant of John, received the prize for being the most recently married to attend the reunion. Descendants of Abraham, David, Elizabeth, Jacob, John, and Isaac Detwiler were present for the 110th Reunion, and thirty descendants of John and Mary Jane Detwiler were the largest family group represented at this year’s reunion. The other family lines were challenged to exceed that number at the 111th Reunion in 2007. Thelma Fisher, Jean Sterner, Debbie and Erica Lesh were cheered as a 4 generation group attending the Reunion this year.

Members of the family of Jean Riley Williams worked together to win the Game Quiz, which all had had the opportunity to play while waiting for the business meeting to begin. The family quilt, made by Martha Weed for the 100th reunion, will reside at the home of Charles and Donna Detwiler of Rehobeth Beach, Delaware, until the 111th Reunion in 2007.

Under “old business” Sandy introduced Chris Fetters who explained the Detwiler family crest which he had designed after research on the internet. Those present were asked to sign a matte which will be used to frame a picture of the family crest as a memento of the 110th Reunion. Consideration is being given to having a family member place this framed family crest in their home, from reunion to reunion, as we currently do with our heirloom quilt.

The following family members were elected as officers for the upcoming year: President: Sandy Detwiler Lusch; Secretary: Cecile Fetters, Treasurer: Scott Sifford, and Richard H. Lusch, Historian. Next years reunion date will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2007.

Respectfully submitted, Cecile Fetters, Secretary
