Minutes of the 112TH DETWILER REUNION –
August 16, 2008
Seventy-seven (77) descendants of Henry and Catherine (Latshaw) Detwiler gathered Saturday, August 16, 2008 to celebrate their 112th reunion. The theme of this year’s reunion was “Rediscovering Our Roots”. Included among the mementoes brought to the Reunion were a copy of the will of Hans Detwiler made December 17, 1750 and the will of Henry Detwiler made on October 31, 1809. Prior to the covered-dish meal David Rapp of Reading, gave the invocation and then all sang the Doxology accompanied by Chris Fetters.
After the meal and fellowship time, a group photo was taken with a background of the quilt made by Martha Weed for the 100th reunion in 1996. The following family members were then given special recognition: the oldest man present, 94-year old Harry Styer, the oldest lady present, Vi March, 91-years old, and the youngest family member, Josselyn Collier, 4 ½ months old. Christopher and Erin Fetters, married on March 29, 2008, received the prize for being the most recently married in attendance. Jean Riley Williams traveled the farthest from Bethesda, Maryland. Twenty-nine (29) descendants of John and Mary Jane Detwiler were the largest family group represented at this year’s reunion, but the twenty-two (22) descendants of Abraham Detwiler were challenged to exceed that number at the 113th Reunion in 2009.
Children’s games and activities were held during the business meeting and a Kids Korner with crafts and activities was also available to the young family members throughout the afternoon.
The business meeting was called to order by President, Sandy Detwiler Lusch. Secretary Cecile Fetters read the minutes of the 2007 Reunion. There were no additions or corrections to the minutes. Cecile also asked all present to check the address list for additions or corrections. Cecile also asked family members to sign-up to bring supplies to next year’s reunion and to help with Reunion activities. Scott Sifford gave the Treasurer’s report noting that the amount in the treasury has remained at a stable level for the last several years. He then passed a basket for donations to help defray the cost of using Camp Innabah for this year’s reunion.
Historian, Dick Lusch had received word of 4 births, 4 deaths, and 10 weddings over the past year and he asked for any other new information on changes in the number of family members. Dick also had a computer printout of each of the 12 descendant children’s lines available for all to view.
There was discussion as to how to organize pictures from past reunions so that family members will be able to look back at them in the years to come. It was decided to ask all family members to bring copies of their past reunion pictures on a CD or flash drive to next year’s reunion, so that they could all be compiled into one file as well as copies made for an album. Family members may also bring prints and we will try to have a scanner available to scan them into an electronic file. We will also attempt to rent a projector and project the pictures during the noon meal for all to enjoy.
Amanda Boyd and Dave Fetters won the 2 Game Quizzes, which all had had the opportunity to play while waiting for the business meeting to begin. The 100th reunion family quilt will reside at the home of Dave & Cecile Fettters, and the framed family crest will be placed in the home of Elmer Funk until the 113th Reunion in 2009.
Wendy Zern had selected 6 door prizes which were won by Dave Fetters, Celia Fisher, Erin Fetters, Scott Sifford, Keith Blake, and Jaye-Ann Schwartz.

The following family members were elected as officers for the upcoming year: President: Sandy Detwiler Lusch; Secretary: Cecile Fetters, Treasurer: Scott Sifford, and Richard H. Lusch, Historian. Next year the reunion will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2009.
Respectfully submitted, Cecile Fetters, Secretary
